About Dance #1
Hiromi's "Mai" series of three tulip origami paintings is ideally suited to work as a vertical or horizontal grouping but each work is completely sufficient for separate presentation as well. Each "Mai" work displays beautiful white patterned foldings with red elements placed in contrasting directions. Hiromi describes these works as possessing "calming energy".
Each of the three "Mai" paintings features the transit of its pattern's origin point by a separate set of red elements. These lines from T.S. Eliot's "Burnt Norton" come to mind:
At the still point of the turning world.
Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered.
Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline.
Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
