About Saisei (Rebirth)
The Japanese word "saisei", meaning "Rebirth/ Return to life," is composed of the kanji (read sai) meaning "again; twice; second time" and (read sei) meaning "life; birth". In the lower right of her piece, just above her chop, Hiromi has written the two kanji representing "rebirth" or "regeneration" rendered in block (kaisho) script.
To the left of the kanji, are over one thousand hand folded cranes. From a distance the viewer can discern a very evident line of white cranes pointing to the left (west), beginning with a single red crane to the right (east) and moving towards its inevitable destination.
